Will I live to see 100?…….something to think about.
I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests,
he said I was doing “fairly well” for my age (I will be turning 70 early next year).
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn’t resist asking him,
‘Do you think I’ll live to be 100?’
He asked,
‘Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?’
I said, ‘ very little….my wife as well as my former doctor discouraged me from eating red meats!’
He proceeded by saying, ‘Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, bicycling?’
‘ I do a little yard work,’ I replied.
In a louder, seemly frustrated voice, he asked, ‘ Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or better yet, have lots of sex?’
“Never to the first, and very rarely on the last,’ I said.
He then looked me straight in the eyes, and in his most sincere voice he said,
“Then, why do you even give a shit about living to be a 100?”
